Safe zones in GTA 6: at your friend's club you're going to have to behave yourself

In GTA 5 you could trash Trevor's bar just because you could. In GTA 6 one club will tell you no — and honestly, I get it.

Remember walking into Trevor’s bar in GTA 5 and trashing the place simply because you could? In GTA 6, judging by what’s circulating online, that trick won’t work everywhere. The Leonida map will have a fair number of places tied to the story, and inside them the game won’t let you steal a car, start a fight or even draw a weapon.

The first known example is a club owned by Jason’s friend. Rockstar’s logic goes like this: there’s no point destroying a friend’s business for the sake of something you can do anywhere else on the map. And you know what, I get it. When your character has a friend, and the friend has a club, a bar you demolished looks strange in the next cutscene. It seems Rockstar finally decided characters should remember what you did five minutes ago.

I’ll be honest: the first reaction is “hey, this is GTA, where’s my freedom?”. But the longer I think about it, the more it looks like the right call. The chaos you can’t start in one club isn’t going anywhere — it stays available across thousands of square kilometres of everything else. And the club itself becomes a place you’ll want to come back to, not set dressing for another five-star getaway.

How many zones like this there are, and how the game explains the ban, we’ll find out closer to release. For now I keep picturing myself walking into that club, reaching for my gun out of habit — and nothing happens. Weird. And, I think, right.
