📖Jason's StartThe story's first chapter lives here

The Leonida Keys are GTA VI’s tropical archipelago — a thin chain of islands hanging off the southern tip of the state, strung together by a single highway of causeways and bridges. It’s the game’s take on the Florida Keys, and Rockstar’s framing is exact: a place where the dress code is loose, the bars are full, and the easy life sits on top of some of the most beautiful and dangerous waters in America.

Geography as gameplay

One road in, one road out, open water on both sides — the Keys are built so that boats matter as much as cars. Official material and trailer footage show the landmarks that define the region: a long causeway highway modeled on the Overseas Highway, a broken bridge nearly identical to the old Seven Mile Bridge, mangrove channels, marinas, and a surveillance blimp floating over the water — a nod to the real “Fat Albert” aerostat that watches boat traffic off the actual Keys.

That last detail says a lot: this is smuggler geography, and the game knows it. Remote coves, international waters close by, and a highway that’s also a chokepoint.

The story starts here

The Keys are the home turf of Jason Duval — the place where he washed up after the Army and went to work for local drug runners. His landlord and employer Brian Heder runs a boat yard here, and Cal Hampton monitors Coast Guard radio from his couch nearby. That’s three of the eight officially revealed characters anchored in one region — the clearest signal of where GTA VI’s opening chapters live.
