Any store in GTA 6 can be robbed, but the haul isn't spendable until it's been laundered

Rockstar has quietly moved the hard part of a robbery from the break-in to the drive home. That's a bigger design change than it sounds.

The previews that followed An Extended Look agree on one thing: robbery in GTA 6 is a system, not a mission type. Any store can be robbed, even without an icon on the map. Each spot has its own details: cameras, a back door, a safe, a clerk who might fight back. The safe code can be found on site or obtained in advance through the right people. From there it scales up: armoured trucks, banks, criminal compounds.

The most interesting change is the money. There are three kinds. Your bank balance is untouchable. Cash disappears if you die. And the haul in the bag (jewellery, drugs, stolen goods) isn’t money at all until you’ve driven it to a fence. So a job no longer ends at the shop door — it ends at the fence’s, and the drive there is the most nervous part.

Remember the end of GTA 5? Millions in the account and nothing to spend them on. Rockstar seems to have learned from that: garages, salons, tuning, property — it’s all waiting for your money, but first you have to launder it.

I don’t know if this loop gets old by hour sixty. But for the first time since 2013 I’m actually interested in what I’m saving up for.
