GTA 6 pre-orders are closing on five million — and nearly 90% of buyers picked the $100 Ultimate Edition

The interesting number isn't the five million. It's that almost nobody bought the cheap one — and that tells you more about the next two months than any sales chart.

According to Sensor Tower, GTA 6 pre-orders are close to five million. But that’s not the main number: almost 90% of buyers took the $99.99 Ultimate Edition instead of the standard one.

For context: premium editions of big games usually take between 10% and 20% of pre-orders, and even 50% would count as a sensation. Ninety has never happened to anyone.

Twenty dollars separate the two editions. Across four million buyers that’s about $80 million people paid extra voluntarily — simply because they had no use for the cheaper version. A pre-order record shows how well-known a game is. The edition split shows that people aren’t even hesitating. I looked at the comparison table for about a minute myself — and took the Ultimate too. Platforms: 77% of pre-orders on PS5, the rest on Xbox Series.

Take-Two doesn’t confirm the numbers. CEO Strauss Zelnick told investors that pre-orders were “unprecedented and astonishing” and “vastly” above forecasts — but gave no specifics: pre-orders are refundable, and November 19 is still two months away. And keep in mind that Sensor Tower models storefront data rather than receiving it: the overall picture looks right, but treat the exact figures with a margin for error.
